Beauty in the 1400’s

    Visiting the KHM’s Kunstkammer, a beautiful painting from around 1400 .I grabbed my camera and took several photos.

    Except for the song “Lo, how a rose e’er blooming”, all the other songs are folksongs, mainly from Austria. Some of the lyrics in various dialects, which are still spoken in the countryside. Translating the text word for word would sometimes not express the imagery of the verse, not to mention that translating dialect is a difficult task anyway. The English version will therefore depict the atmosphere of the song, allowing one’s own imagination to fill in the rest.
    Translating the Christmas songs was a cooperative effort between me and Rebecca Colton, my American online English teacher. In addition, she provided invaluable background information about “American Christmas”.

    Linda Andrews and I have worked together on various programs in Macomb. Linda not only teaches the organ at WIU, but is also the organist of the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb,IL, a beautiful place for concerts.

    Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the church uses Zoom to give people the option to take part in Sunday services as well as a form to communicate with each other.
    Linda suggested putting together a collection of music for Advent and Christmas for people to watch, listen to or download to their computer.


    My choice was to play songs which I grew up with and which reflect my cultural background.
