Demel is one of the most famous coffee houses in Vienna. It has a gorgeous interior, not to mention about the sweets it offers. And like all the other coffee houses in the inner district, it has an interesting cultural past.

Due to the situation caused by the pandemic, the presentation in the shop window has been modified.
Now passersby can watch two cooks preparing “Kaiserschmarrn”, a famous Austrian dish. One can order portions for take away and, unless it is raining, there is usually a long line of customers waiting outside.
Other restaurants came up with slightly different solutions, offering another old and famous Austrian sweet bread, “Buchteln” for take away. All of a sudden these old recipes have become very popular again – thanks to Covid 19.
Lobmeyer at Kärntnerstrasse is definitely one of the most beautiful shops in the inner disctrict. Like all the other shops it is closed now. And yet, at the same time it somehow breathes beauty and hope as well.
